One developer, one vision: an Amberg developer builds a comprehensive tournament platform single-handedly
Outdated software, missing features and high costs gave Amberg software developer Markus Müller an idea: why not develop a modern tournament planner himself? The result is Turnierplan.eu, a comprehensive platform for organising sports tournaments, available as a website and a fully featured Android app.

Amberg. Organising sports tournaments often takes considerable effort. Teams need to register, schedules must be created, results recorded and participants informed. Markus Müller found many existing solutions technically outdated, limited in functionality or simply too expensive.
Rather than accepting these limitations, the Amberg developer began programming his own tournament software.
What makes the project special is that Markus Müller developed the entire platform himself. From the technical foundations and user interface to the many tournament features, all development comes from one person.
Turnierplan.eu has been publicly available since March 2026 and is continually expanded with new features.
Much more than an ordinary tournament planner
Turnierplan.eu offers more than conventional schedule creation, with numerous ways to customise sports tournaments.
Alongside group, league and knockout formats, the platform supports combined tournament formats and the Swiss system.
Even unusual configurations, such as tournaments with an odd number of groups followed by a knockout stage, can be accommodated.
Another distinctive feature is playout mode. With an odd number of participants, the bottom team need not automatically remain last. Additional placement matches allow further positions to be decided on the field, giving teams at the bottom of the standings a chance to move up.
Live brackets bring stadium atmosphere to the screen
Live brackets offer a distinctive way to display competitions in progress on Turnierplan.eu.
The stadium view visualises tournament progress and clearly presents fixtures and results. Spectators can follow the competition live on their smartphones or on larger screens at the venue.
Tournament awards add further interaction. Voting can be held, for example, to select the best player or best team of a tournament.
A simple schedule thus becomes a digital companion for the entire event.
Different sports, different scoring systems
Unlike planners designed solely for football tournaments, Turnierplan.eu supports many sports.
Organisers can choose from several scoring methods:
- Goals, for example for football or handball
- Points, for example for volleyball
- Sets, for example for tennis
- Legs or sets and legs for darts
- Sets and points, for example for cornhole
- Dedicated scoring logic for individual chess tournaments
Both team sports and individual competitions can therefore be organised on the same platform.
From online registration to intelligent changing room allocation
Turnierplan.eu pays particular attention to organisational tasks before and during an event.
The integrated registration system allows teams and individuals to register for a tournament themselves. Organisers manage incoming registrations and can transfer participants directly into the schedule.
Tournament schedules can also be sent to participants directly through the platform.
Automatic changing room allocation is another practical feature.
Organisers specify how many changing rooms are available. The system creates matching room signs and takes team groups into account when rooms need to be shared.
This prevents direct group opponents from being assigned the same changing room.
Website and Android app with full functionality
Turnierplan.eu can be used directly in a web browser. A dedicated Android app is also available.
The app is not a reduced mobile version: it offers the same functionality as the website.
Organisers can fully plan, manage and run their tournaments through the app, from participant registration and scheduling to entering results and evaluating the tournament.
Switching between computer, tablet and smartphone makes organisation easier, especially at the sidelines or during an event.
Available internationally in 14 languages
Although all development takes place in Amberg, Turnierplan.eu is not aimed solely at German sports clubs.
The platform now supports 14 languages and can also be used by international organisers.
Extensive features at affordable prices
A guiding idea in development was that professional tournament organisation should not have to be expensive.
Turnierplan.eu therefore offers a permanently free basic version. Optional Premium packages are available for additional requirements.
Development continues, with new tournament modes, management features and improvements added regularly.
A project from the Upper Palatinate with great potential
What began as a personal response to inadequate tournament software has grown into a versatile digital platform.
And all without a large development team: Markus Müller remains the sole programmer.
His goal is to give sports clubs and organisers as many tools as possible so they can spend less time on organisational tasks and more on the tournament itself.
